Case Study: Pro Sport Support

Feb 07, 2018

Huddersfield based company, Pro Sport Support are leaders in athletic development for young football players, and have a vision to create individualised athletic development for young players from both a hands on and online perspective. Working with over 3,000 young players at over 20 professional football clubs over the last three years, the foundation of their knowledge has been gained from testing, analysing and training young players.

When Pro Sport Support where first introduced to the Enterprise Europe Network team at RTC North, the team quickly identified that they required support in identifying and assessing the intellectual property within their product. Pro Sport worked with Kieran Perkins Innovation specialist on the Innovate2Succeed programme, which is delivered by RTC through the EEN programme and funded by Innovate UK and the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

Kieran helped Pro Sport Support to get an IP Audit on their AMAT Performance product. AMAT is a motion capture system based on infrared camera technology and is used for the quick and easy assessment of athletes movement quality. The system is already in use in the UK in football academies and has been very successful.

After looking at their intellectual property it was clear the company had potential to scale, and it was important to understand how to  protect the product and fully access opportunities for commercialisation. In particular they were looking to to upscale their manufacturing. They looked to China for potential partners, and that’s where the Enterprise Europe Network was able to assist them further.

The EEN partnership programme allowed them to explore different manufacturers and distributors within China to develop the AMAT. Enterprise Europe Network adviser Leo Donato was able to introduce them to a company called The Good Family (also known as Shenzhen Family Enterprise Co. Ltd), and after a process of negotiations, the two companies agreed on a cooperation strategy. Under licence from Pro Sport Support, the Good Family will manufacture and distribute the Pro Sport Support developed AMAT system in China, which will be sold from April 2018 to Chinese sport teams and associations, schools, sport centers and gyms.
